Abstract (EN)

In this thesis, natural clinoptilolite samples from Gördes and Bigadiç regions and those of (Na-, K-, Ca-, Mg-) forms prepared using 1 M solutions of NaNO3, KNO3, Ca(NO3)2 and Mg(NO3)2 and those of Na forms prepared using 0.5 and 2 M solutions of NaNO3 were characterized and their SO2 adsorption properties were investigated at 0 oC and 20 oC. Structural and thermal characteristics of natural and modified clinoptilolite samples were investigated using XRF, XRD, nitrogen (N2) adsorption, DTA, TG/DTG, DSC, FT-IR techniques. At the end of the SO2 adsorption experiments at 0 oC and 20 oC, it was determined that natural and modified samples from Gördes adsorbed much more SO2 compared to natural and modified samples from Bigadiç region. Among all the modified forms, it was found that the Na-forms of both clinoptilolite samples have the most SO2 adsorption capacity. It was determined that 0.5 and 2 M Na-forms of both regions showed less SO2 adsorption capacity compared to the Na-G. and Na-B. samples prepared with 1 M NaNO3 solutions. It was found that SO2 adsorption amounts of Na-G. sample at 0 oC and 20 oC were 3.088 mmol/g and 2.616 mmol/g, respectively.
