Effects of the baby's temperament and mother's psychopathological characteristics on breastfeeding in the first six month

The research was conducted to determine the effects of the baby's temperament and the mother's psychopathological features on breastfeeding only in the first six months. The study included 347 mothers and their babies who were admitted to the family health center in Trabzon Ortahisar between June and November 2019, who applied to the family health center and met the criteria for admission. Data were collected by using the Intoductory Information Form, Telephone Interview Information Form, Infant Behavior Questionare-Very Short Form Turkish Version and Brief Symptom Inventory by face-to-face interview method. The data obtained from the study were analyzed using SPSS 24.0 package program. Descriptive statistics, Independent Sample t Test, One Way Anova Analysis, Tukey Test, Chi-Square Analysis, Pearson Moments Multiplication Analysis and Backward Stepwise Regression Analysis were used to evaluate the data. The mean age of the mothers participated in the study was 30.34±5.04 years. There was no significant difference between the first six months SAS and feeding times of the mothers according to family type. However, there were statistically significant differences between breast milk only and feeding time in the first six months according to education, study, non-disease in pregnancy, breastfeeding status in the first 60 minutes after birth (p<0.05). the psychological characteristics of mothers, personal sensitivity, depression, anxiety disorder, hostility and the baby's feeding time with breast milk only in the first six months were found to be negatively correlated (p<0.05). It was determined that there was a positive relationship between the baby's positive affect on temperament characteristics and SAS and feeding time of the baby in the first six months (p <0.05). As a result, the psychopathological characteristics of the mother negatively affect only the duration of breast milk intake within the first six months of the baby. In the first six months, the baby's positive emotions affect only the feeding time with breast milk in a positive way.
