The investigation of the relationship between emotional intelligence and occupational burnout of physical education teachers

The main aim of this study is to examine the relationship between emotional intelligence and occupational burnout levels in physical education teachers. 123 women, 75 men and a total of 198 physical education teachers participated in the study as volunteers. In the study, information about socio-demographic variables was collected using a personal information form created by the researcher. To achieve the purpose of the research; "Burnout scale" developed by Petrides and Furnham (2000), adapted to Turkish by Deniz, Özer ve Işık (2013), as well as "Emotional Intelligence Scale Short Form" developed by Pines (2005), adapted to Turkish by Tümkaya, Çam ve Çavuşoğlu (2009) was used. In the analysis of the data obtained, correlation and regression analyses were performed with independent groups t-test in accordance with the normal distribution of the data. The analysis was performed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS 22 package programs, and the statistical significance level was accepted as p<0.05 in all evaluations. As a result of this research, it was found that there is a moderately statistically significant relationship between emotional intelligence and burnout in a negative direction. It has also been determined that burnout is significantly influenced by emotional intelligence and explains 35% of its variance.
