Examining the relationships between personality traits of physical education and sports teacher candidatesand their competence in choosing teaching techniques

The aim of this study is to examine the relationships between the personality traits of physical education and sports teacher candidates and their competence in choosing teaching techniques. For this purpose, the quantitative method was followed in the study and the relational screening model was used. The sample group consists of 213 teacher candidates who studied in the Physical Education and Sports Teaching program at Bayburt and Gümüşhane Universities between 2023-2024. Parametric methods were used in the analysis of the data, and difference tests and correlation analysis were performed. According to the analysis, it was concluded that the evaluations made by the participants regarding their personality traits and their competence in choosing teaching techniques did not differ significantly according to the age factor, the university they attended, their previous status as instructors, their monthly personal income levels, and their monthly family income levels, and that they had similar perceptions. According to the gender variable, it was determined that the evaluations made by the participants regarding their personality traits differed in favor of women, while the gender characteristic did not create a significant difference on their competence in choosing teaching techniques. While the class characteristic of the participants did not create a significant difference in the evaluations regarding their personality characteristics; it was determined that the evaluations of their competence in choosing teaching techniques differed according to their class characteristic. It was concluded that regular sports activities affected the evaluations of the participants regarding their personality traits and their competence in choosing teaching techniques. Finally, it was concluded that there was a high level of positive relationship between personality traits and the perception of competence in choosing teaching techniques.
