An examination of the relationship between media literacy levels and critical literacy levels of physical education and sport teachers

The aim of this research is to reveal the relationship between the levels of media literacy and critical literacy of physical education and sport teachers. Media literacy and critical literacy leveling scales were used in the study. The levels of media literacy and critical literacy of physical education and sport teachers were examined according to the variables of "sex, age, marital status, education status, occupational seniority, education level and duty position". Besides, in this researches two scales were used between to relationship in this study. In addition, the relationship between the two scale levels used in the research has been examined.The research model is a descriptive - relational screening model from general screening models.In this study, the general screening model was applied to the sample group by the "Random Sampling" method. The researcher's universe constitutes 628 physical education and sports teachers working in different educational levels in Sakarya and Bartın.The sample of the research constitutes 244 voluntary physical education and sports teachers selected randomly from the physical education and sports teachers in Sakarya and Bartın provinces. to determine Critical Literacy levels were used to determine media literacy levels "Media and" Television Literacy Levels Scale "developed by Korkmaz and Yeşil (2011) and" Critical Literacy Leveling Scale "(EODBÖ) developed by Yilmaz (2013). Data were analyzed by MANOVA test to determine media literacy levels and critical literacy levels according to the demographic characteristics of the participants. Correlation analysis was performed for determining the relationship between MODBÖ and EODBÖ. To determine the differences between the groups, the TUKEY test was used. It has been found that the effect of the 'marital status' variable on the subscales of both MODBÖ and EODBO includes significant differences in the findings of the research. Although the other variables did not differ significantly on the subscales of MODBÖ and EODBO, it was found that the scores in factor dimension differed significantly. According to the correlation analysis between MODBÖ and EODBÖ, it was determined that there is a significant correlation between the media literacy levels of the physical education and sport teachers and the critical literacy levels in the moderate and positive direction. At the same time, the average scores of MODBÖ and EODBÖ subscales were found to be on the middle level. Keywords: Physical Education and Sport Teacher, Media, Media Literacy, Critical Literacy
