Examination the financial literacy levels of municipal employees: Samsun Metropolitan Municipality

This study investigated the relationship between financial knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors and financial literacy levels in public employees. This study addressed financial interpretation capability, credibility, operational process, and hedging to determine municipal employees' financial literacy levels. Data were collected using a survey. The sample consisted of 182 participants. Validity, reliability, factor, and difference analyses were performed. Almost half the participants thought that their income was enough to make a living (46.2%). Less than half of the participants believed that they were paid according to their performance (40.1%). Almost half the participants believed that their salary affected their performance (47.3%). More than a quarter of the participants managed their budgets without any other income (34.6%). Age and marital status did not affect participants' financial literacy levels. There was a positive correlation between age and financial interpretation capability, credibility, reliability, and financial literacy levels. Participants with higher titles had higher levels of credibility and financial literacy. There was no significant difference in financial literacy levels and dimensions between participants who believed that their salary affected their performance and those who did not.
