An investigation of the attitudes, the need of social approval and fear of the being negative evalution of flirt violence in the emerging adulthood period

The aim of this study is to investigate whether the attitudes of individuals within the age period of emerging adulthood (18-29 years) to general flirt violence differ, according to gender, fear of being exposed to negative evaluation and the need of social approval. In addition, whether the attitudes towards all of the sub-dimensions of flirting violence of individuals who are within the age group of emerging adulthood differ or not, constitutes another aspect of this study. The study group of the research consists of 636 students in total, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade students (ages between 18-29) studying at four-year faculties in Mersin University, Faculty of Education. In order to obtain the required set of data for the research, the students who enrolled in the study were provided with Personal Information Forms to obtain the required personal data, Flirting Violence Attitude Scale for the measurement of participants' attitude towards the severity of flirting violence, Brief Negative Evaluation Measurement Scale for the measurement of the severity of negative evaluation, and Social Approval Measurement Scale to measure the need of social approval in participants. According to the data obtained from the research; It has been concluded that the number of women who are within the age group of emerging adulthood and are being exposed to violence is more than the number of men who resort to and are exposed to violence, that more women are exposed to domestic violence than men, and that as the fear of being exposed to negative evaluation decreases, the attitudes of the emerging adults towards general, physical, economical and emotional flirt violence indicate a more positive approach. However, no significant correlative difference was found between sexual flirtation violence and fear of being exposed to negative evaluation. Additionally; It has been concluded that as the need for social approval in emerging adults decreases, their attitudes towards general, physical, economical and emotional flirt violence also indicates a positive change, meaning that they consent to it less.
