Abstract (EN)

Clinical features of patients with benign joint hypermobility syndrome AIM: Benign Joint Hypermobility Syndrome (BJHS) is a disease accompanied by musculoskeletal system symptoms as well as striae, myopia, organ prolapses and psychological symptoms in patients with diffuse joint laxity. The incidence of BJHS varies according to age, gender and ethnicity. In our study, we aimed to define to what extent joint effusion, subluxation, dislocation, soft tissue lesions, gastrointestinal, emotional and cardiac conditions are affected in individuals affected by BJHS compared to individuals without BJHS and to increase awareness. METHOD: In our study, we included 102 patients diagnosed with BJHS and 51 patients who were excluded from BJHS, who applied to Sakarya Training and Research Hospital Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation polyclinics between June 2022 and May 2023 with pain. We recorded the pain parameters, cardiac, obstetric, rheumatic, psychological, gastrointestinal complaints and laboratory parameters of these patients and compared the 2 groups. The distribution of variables was measured with the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. The mann-whitney u test was used in the analysis of quantitative independent data. Chi-square test was used in the analysis of qualitative independent data, and the fischer test was used when the chi-square test conditions were not met. SPSS 28.0 program was used in the analysis. RESULTS: In BJHS group, cervical, hip, knee and foot pain rate, dyspepsia, striae, delayed gait, joint dislocation and subluxation frequency, discal hernia rate, joint effusion history, TMED frequency, anterior drawer test positivity, chondromalacia patella, pes planus, raynaud We found the presence of thoracic outlet and tarsal tunnel syndrome, tendinitis and bursitis frequency, scoliosis, FMS frequency, anxiety and depression scores significantly higher, and SF-36 subparameter scores significantly decreased. CONCLUSION: We found that most of the complaints and findings related to the musculoskeletal system, which are expected to increase in frequency in BJHS patients, increased in line with the literature. The fact that these patients had increased anxiety and depression scores and decreased quality of life compared to other individuals with pain suggested that BJHS itself may be a cause of anxiety and low quality of life independent of pain, and that awareness of BJHS should be increased.
