Comparative analysis of two engines using gasoline and lpg through oil analysis method

Abstract (EN)

Considered as an alternative fuel in internal combustion engines, LPG has found a wide area of use in today's automotive sector and the fact that it is environment-friendlier and more economical than other fuels is among the main reasons for its preferability. Despite various academic studies about LPG use in automotive sector in terms of economy, performance and environmentalism, studies about the effects of LPG use on the internal structure and components of engines are limited. In this study, using "Oil Analysis" method, one of the predictive maintenance techniques, the engine oil of two vehicles, one running on gasoline and the other on LPG, which are the same brand and model with the same hardware, was analyzed after 10,000 km and the oil values before and after use were compared and put into tables. Such factors as viscosity, density, elemental analysis, foreign particle size, contamination class, TAN value, oxidation value and water amount were the data taken into account in the study. These data were presented as graphs and tables for three samples each so that their comparison could be facilitated. As a result of the analysis, except for some exceptional changes in some data, no significant differences were observed and it was seen that the measured values were within the range of acceptable limits. In the light of the data, it was concluded that the negative effect of LPG on engine health is limited and this effect could be overcome through improvements in engine oil technology.
