ABSTRACT Ph. Master Thesis THE RESPONSE OF DIFFERENT TOMATO CULTTVARS (Lycopersicon esculentam) TO INCREASING NaCl EST NUTRIENT CULTURE AND EFFECT OF SALINITY STRESS TO DRY MATTER YIELD AND MINERAL CONTENT Nuray BİLGİN Atatürk University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Deppartment of Soil Supervisor : Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nesrin YILDIZ The aim of this study was to investigate plant shoot and root dry matter yield and mineral content of three tomato cultivars when seedlings were transfered to nutrition solution of incresing NaCl content (Eİo=l,34, Eİı=3, Eİ2=7, Eİy=14 mmhos/cm) at three growth stages. Seedlings from three cultivars (Kaya fl, Sencan9 and İnuctius lot. 335) were transfered to Arnon (1938) nutrition solution. After different 4 NaCl concentrations were added (Eİo=l,34, Eİı=3, Eİr=7, Eİ3=14 mmhos/cm) in different growth stage (1. immediately after germeniation, 2.Three weeks after germination, 3. Six weeks after germination.). Tomato plants were harvested just before flowering for dry weight meassurement and anlysis for mineral content Na growth occured at the first growth stage in all cultivars. Dry matter decreased as NaCl concentration at solution increased but Na and CI concent increased in contrast to K and N03 contents in all cultivars and applications. 2002, 53 pages Keywords: Salinity strees, tomato, nutrient culture, growth stage, tolerance.
