This study was conducted with 310 patients who applied to our outpatient clinic between 01.06.2023 and 01.10.2023. The data were collected by filling out the questionnaire form by face-to-face interview method. The participants were 48.7% female and 51.3% male, with an average age of 29 years. After industrialization in the world, there have been changes in nutritional cultures due to reasons such as changes in job definitions and working hours, foods have started to be found on the shelves in many healthy and unhealthy forms, the time allocated to nutrition has shortened and the need for physical activity has decreased. One of the main problems brought about by this new order is obesity. Obesity is increasing worldwide, making it a universal health problem. The primary cause of obesity is food selection errors and the health problems associated with the increase in obesity cause a serious decrease in the quality of life. In this study, the relationship between food selection habits and obesity and their effects on quality of life were examined. According to the findings, it is noteworthy that lack of awareness in food selection has negative effects on quality of life and causes an increase in obesity. Nutritional errors and obesity are growing as a great danger that concerns the whole world, decreasing the quality of life of societies, and in this regard, governments, public intellectuals and family physicians, who are preventive physicians, have a great responsibility. In the results of the study, the quality of life of women was found to be lower than that of men, and it was pointed out that society should be encouraged to increase women's participation in social and working life and to reduce their responsibilities within the nuclear family system. In terms of food selection, it was found that young people were more prone to unnatural nutrition, men were more prone to eating without paying attention to healthy ingredients, and women were more prone to malnutrition due to mood swings, and the importance of informing the society about these nutritional errors was emphasized.
