Investigation of water quality of Beyler Dam Lake (Devrekani-Kastamonu) and evaluation in terms of aquaculture

In this study, physical, chemical and microbiological water quality parameters of Beyler Dam Lake located in Devrekani district of Kastamonu were investigated and water usability was evaluated in terms of aquaculture. For this purpose, water samples were obtained from four different stations on the lake once a month for twelve months. After performing required laboratory practices and statistical analyzes, obtained data were evaluated according to surface waters classification system in Water Pollution Control Regulation. Accordingly, it was determined that Beyler Dam Lake was classified as Class I in terms of temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, nitrite, ammonium, COD, BOD; Class II in terms of nitrate and Class IV in terms of phosphate. The lake was in Class II in terms of total coliform and in Class III in terms of fecal coliform bacteria. Although there is no reference limit in the regulation in terms of turbidity, it has been determined that it was within the standard limits specified by the World Health Organization and the European Union. As a result, water of Beyler Dam Lake was determined to be in Class I within the context of Water Pollution Control Regulation in terms of general chemical and physico-chemical parameters of terrestrial surface waters. For this reason, it is suggested that the potential of being a suitable fish culture location of Beyler Dam Lake for those who wish to cultivate is present.
