The analysis of the issues related to ijma in the work titled Bidayet al-Mujtahid and Nihayet al-Muqtesid

Ibn Rushd, following the family tradition, was interested in the Maliki sect and worked as a qadi. One of the rare jurisprudential works of Ibn Rushd, whose jurisprudential knowledge is quite broad and deep, is Bidâyet al-Mujtahid wa Nihâyet al-Muqtesid. This work is a comparative work of Islamic law and allows us to make some interpretations about Ibn Rushd's understanding of the method of fiqh. In this study, we will focus our attention on the provisions regarding ijma. In Bidayat al-Mujtahid wa Nihayat al-Muqtesid, we will analyse the rulings about which Ibn Rushd claims that there is ijmā, and we will examine Ibn Rushds approach to and evaluations of ijmā on these issues. In the light of these evaluations, we will determine Ibn Rushd's understanding of ijmā. In addition to providing a clearer understanding of Ibn Rushds approach to the theory of ijmā, it is also among the aims of the study whether ijmā is realised or not by ensuring that the provisions claiming ijmā in other sects.
