Abstract (EN)

Compound interest isnot defined in any part of legistation. For this reason, doctrine tries to reach a definition from the provisions prohibiting compound interest in legistation. Regulations regarding compound interest are basically included in the Law on Statutory Interest and Default Interest, Turkish Code of Obligations, Turkish Commercial Code, Bank Cards and Credit Cards Law, Consumer Protection Law and Enforcement and Bankruptcy Law. Compound interest is prohibited in our law as a rule, and the legislator allows compound interest in some cases exceptionally. The subject of our study is firstly to reveal the legal nature and types of interest, then to determine the definition and scope of compound interest exactly and to determine the situations that are not within the scope of compound interest, and to discuss the cases that allow compound interest to be carried out exceptionally by the law, although it remains within the scope of this.
