The importance of information systems in digitalizing universities: Case of Kastamonu University

In this thesis, the effects of digitalization on education management systems were examined using the example of Kastamonu University. Digital transformation creates significant changes in the administrative and academic processes of educational institutions and increases the efficiency of these processes. In this study, the use of the University Information Management System (UIMS) was discussed in detail, and the applications of this system in universities were examined. The findings of the study show that UIMS provides significant improvements in areas such as student information management, electronic document flow, personnel affairs, and strategic management information. The contributions of digitalization to the quality of education are also addressed in this study. Digital education technologies enable students to access information quickly and easily, and provide instructors with opportunities to develop more effective teaching methods. However, there are some challenges, such as the lack of digital literacy and technical infrastructure issues. In this context, strategic steps necessary for the successful management of the digital transformation process are proposed. In conclusion, this thesis examines the effects of digitalization on education management systems and the role of these systems in the administrative and academic processes of universities in detail. Using the example of UIMS employed at Kastamonu University, the process of digital transformation and its contributions to the quality of education are discussed. This study offers important insights into how the digitalization process should be managed in universities and serves as an example for other universities.
