Abstract (EN)

This study investigated the effects of the computer based geometry teaching on seventh grade students' achievement in geometric solids and on students' self-efficacy towards geometry. In addition, in order to examine the effects of geometric solids on these variables, students' opinions about computer based instruction were investigated. The study was carried out with 54 seventh grade students at a public school in Mamak district in Ankara. One group was assigned as the experimental group and the other group was assigned as the control group both of which consisted of 27 students. In the experimental group computer supported instruction took place whereas traditional teaching took place in the control group. In this study, an achievement test on properties of quadrilaterals and the issues related to the area was developed. In addition, students' self-efficacy towards geometry was evaluated by self-efficacy scale which was developed by Cantürk-Günhan and Başer (2007). Self-efficacy scale and geometric solids test were administrated as pretest and post-test. After the instruction, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 27 students in the experimental group. Quantitative data obtaiıned in the study was analysed using SPSS 22 software package by using t-test Independent –Samples T-test and Paired Samples T-test. Descriptive analysis in accordance with a predetermined theme concerning qualitative data were performed. At the end of the study, there were significant difference between geometry achievement and self-efficacy towards geometry the students in the experimental group and control group. In addition, the results of the interviews showed that the majority of students have positive feelings about computersupported teaching. Keywords: Computer Supported Geometry Teaching, GeoGebra Software, Self-Efficacy Towards Geometry, Student Achievement, Properties and Areas of Quadrilaterals.
