Abstract (EN)

The purpose of the research is to determine the effects of Cycle Ergometer with Biofeedback on deep sensation, physical condition, and body awareness on patients with knee osteoarthritis (KO). Totally 25 volunteers were involved in the study, and they were divided into Cycle Ergometer Group (CEG) (n=12) and Control Group(CG) (n=13). Patients with KO with a Kellgren-Lawrence scale between 1-3 were included in the study. Before the volunteers attended the study, they were examined by the physician and referred to physical therapy. Patients were assessed with Demographic Information Questionnaire, Diapason, Digital Goniometer, Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE), 6-Minute Walking Test (6MWT), The Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) before and after interventions. Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) and ultrasound were applied to all patients. Isometric exercises were performed on all patients five times a week for three weeks. TENS was used as modulated tens for 20 minutes. Ultrasound was used for 5 minutes. Isometric exercises are included for the lower extremities. In addition, the Cycle Ergometer group performed pedaling on the Cycle Ergometer for 20 minutes five times a week for three weeks. The study results showed statistically different vibration, PASE and WOMAC values compared to groups(p<0.05). CEG has higher effects at the end of the intervention. Moreover, 30-degree, 90-degree, 6-MWT, PASE, and WOMAC scores are statistically improved after the intervention in both groups (p<0.05). However, CG has any statistical improvement on Dipason and 60-degrees (p>0.05). As a result, Cycle Ergometer with Biofeedback can improve individuals' knee proprioception and physical activity levels and decrease conditions caused by osteoarthritis.
