Nevsâl-i Marifet (H.1309-1310) as an encyclopedic annual

In this study, the transcription and evaluation of Nevsâl-i Marifet's yearbook dated 1892 (H.1309/1310) from Ebüzziyâ Mehmed Tevfik Bey's Takvim-i Ebüzziyâ series were made. This work was chosen due to its wide content and aesthetics that can shed light on social and cultural history and be compared with domestic and foreign annuals. In the thesis, besides information about Ebüzziyâ Mehmed Tevfik Bey's life, only some of the works he wrote are included. In order not to exceed the limits of the study and not to repeat the previous works, only those that stand out in the field of history and literature and are relevant to the subject of the thesis have been chosen instead of all the works of the author. Thanks to the information in the first half of Nevsâl-i Marifet; Common contents were shared with the calendar, annual, yearbook, nevsal in the East and almanacs in the West. The main element that made the work interesting were the subjects included in the second half. Among these, the city writings are remarkable in terms of shedding light on administrative and social life. In these articles, in which very detailed information is given, hotels in different countries, important architectural works, police organizations, population rates of countries, famous people who left their mark on the period they were in or were interesting to the author were mentioned in detail. In addition, the names and information of various periodicals are included and they are categorized according to their countries, which has created a rich catalogue worldwide that researchers can benefit from.
