Abstract (EN)

The main purpose of this thesis is to analyze the musical technics and theoretical aspects of Le Grand Macabre Opera, composed by György Ligeti, one of the outstanding works of the 20th century opera repertoire, to ensure that it is understood and recognized. In the study, first of all, the political and artistic framework of the 20th century was drawn, then information about the composer and the opera was written and finally the musical and dramatic analysis of the work was given. The opera movements and intellectual approaches of the period were examined in detail, and the arguments that claimed the place of Le Grand Macabre among these movements were applied. As a result, it is aimed to contribute to the Turkish literature that will help the work to be examined and understood from all aspects. In this study, in which qualitative research is used, it is aimed that these translations will help future research by making use of many sources that have not yet been translated into our language.
