Abstract (EN)

Designing more sensitive and selective fluorescent chemosensors for efficient assessment of Cu2+ and Fe3+ levels, which are transition metal ions for environmental and biological systems, has become an important issue. Based on this information, we reported the synthesis of a new carbazole derivative (Z)-2-(3-(((9-heptyl-9H-carbazol-3-yl)methylene)amino)-9H-carbazol-9-yl)ethan-1ol (6) as a multifunctional fluorescent chemosensor. The synthesized molecules were characterized using 1H NMR, 13C NMR, FT-IR, and TOF-MS spectroscopic data. Optical changes induced by two different metal ions for compound 6 were made in pH 7.0 at ACN: H2O (50: 50) solution. Selective colorimetric recognition of Fe3+ by UV-Vis spectroscopy and fluorogenic recognition of Cu2+ by fluorescence spectroscopy were investigated. In fluorescent recognition process, paramagnetic Cu2+ ion compared to other metal ions was found to "turn off" the fluorescence of compound 6 by binding stoichiometry.
