The story of Câmasb-nâme (Şâhmârân) as a betrayal narration: An intertextual and psychomythological analysis

The Story of Câmasb-nâme (Şâhmârân) as a Betrayal Narration: An Intertextual and Psychomythological Analysis The aim of this study was to analyze the prose story of Câmasb-nâme within various theoretical frameworks. First, a transcription of the manuscript was completed. Câmasb-nâme is identified as a frame story. To enhance understanding, a comprehensive summary was prepared, including the underlying stories. Research indicates that the origin of Câmasb-nâme is "The Tale of the Underground Sultan Yemliha" from One Thousand and One Nights. Due to missing folios in the manuscript, a summary of "The Tale of the Underground Sultan Yemliha" was created to complete the semantic and contextual understanding of the text we have. A comparative analysis of both stories was also conducted. One of the main objectives of this thesis was to analyze Câmasb-nâme from a psychomitological perspective. In this context, reference was made to Y. N. Harari's "Sapiens," emphasizing the significance of storytelling in human history. The analysis utilized Freud's concepts of the individual unconscious and Jung's ideas of the collective unconscious and archetypes. It was shown that Câmasb-nâme presents a "masculine-political" life model centered around the male figure, who sustains a patriarchal society. Additionally, Câmasb-nâme was defined as a "narrative of betrayal." The study focused on betrayal through intertextual theory, examining narratives such as "Adam and Eve," "Abel and Cain," and "The Story of Joseph." The functionality of betrayal in the hero's life and its possible reasons were discussed. Finally, the study concluded by examining the dynamics of the roles of Victim, Rescuer, and Persecutor among the main characters within the Karpman Drama Triangle.
