Assessment of work hygiene measurements in terms of employees in a limestone quarry

SUMMARY Nowadays, although the technology has improved and made the working environment become safe, there is no time in the mining sector without accidents and deaths. When the dangers, which the employee are exposed, are thought, the technology that can prevent this, has not yet been reached. For this reason, despite the developing technology, manpower is preferred instead of working machine in mines because of cheaper manpower. Today, it is still a job that comes to mind with early deaths, occupational diseases and multi-mortal mine accidents. From the perspective of workers and employer with occupational accidents and occupational diseases, it is considered a step forward in business conditions in Turkey. Plans are being made in order to contribute to occupational health and safety, especially workplace physicians and other occupational health and safety workers. The concept of occupational health supervision is the combination of supervision in the working environment and supervision of worker's health. Accordingly, the factors of working conditions in the workplace are important. According to this, he should recognize the workplace environment, observe the hazards and risks and plan health surveillance and act. All personnel working in the mining sector are exposed to certain factors, which are physical or chemical, according to the work that they do. Mining is the most dangerous work class in terms of occupational diseases and occupational accidents. The aim of this study was to investigate and evaluate the physical and chemical factors on the working personnel of a limestone quarry in Sakarya region. The main factors such as Illumination, Thermal Comfort, Noise, Dust and Vibration were evaluated in terms of worker health and safety. Evaluations and measurements were used in accordance with the standards determined by the regulation issued by the Ministry of Labor and Social Security and the measurement values were evaluated accordingly.
