Statistical analysis of the effect of risk factors on the occurance of occupational accidents in a motorway construction

In this thesis, studies on occupational health and safety were carried out in a construction company in the province of Trabzon, and in the light of these studies, the reasons for which occupational accidents are mainly caused were investigated. In this context, a database has been created on the effects of annual training planning and implementation, annual work plan and implementation, risk analyzes, board meetings, emergency action plans, field inspections and personal characteristics of workers on the occurrence of occupational accidents, which are in occupational safety terminology. Then, chi-square statistical analyzes were applied on these data. All occupational safety practices and personal information of workers were examined in the chi-square test (SPSS), which is a test for establishing a connection and relationship between them. According to the findings, a discrepancy was found between the risks observed in field inspections and the rate of elimination of these risks and the rate of occurrence of occupational accidents. Likewise, it has been observed that there is a decrease in occupational accidents as the rate of participation in training increases. Especially in the years coinciding with the Covid-19 epidemic, there has been a great decrease in the number of board meetings and training participants as a result of the epidemic rules. This has led to an increase in occupational accidents. In addition, it has been determined that the education level, age, marital status and work experience of the workers also have an effect on the occurrence of the accidents. Accordingly, as the education level of the workers increases, the number of occupational accidents decreases. Likewise, as the work experience of the worker increases, the rate of work accidents decreases. According to the results obtained from the Chi-square analyzes made in this thesis study, the high level of education, high participation in occupational safety training at the workplace, prevention of risk factors in the working environment, explaining the emergency plans, meetings of the technical team on occupational safety, increasing qualifications of the workers at work.
