Abstract (EN)
The subject of this study is the imams, who are the most visible figures of the Presidency of Religious Affairs (DİB), the main actors in religious services across our country, from its most remote corners to its major cities. Therefore, this study aims to reflect on the professional experiences of those practicing the profession of imamhood, to provide them an opportunity to reflect on their own professional experiences, and to understand how they experience and perceive their profession based on these experiences. This study, based on qualitative research, employs a phenomenological design. The sample group of the research was formed using a criterion sampling method, a type of purposive sampling. Data for the research were collected through semi-structured interview questions. In selecting the research group, fifteen participants who were currently serving in their profession, had at least five years of experience, and were graduates of formal Theology Faculties or İLİTAM programs, were chosen. The data obtained from the interviews conducted with the participants were coded and categorized under twelve categories and thirty sub-codes, grouped into four main themes. In the findings section of the study, the reasons participants were motivated to enter the profession of imamate, the conditions they experienced while practicing the profession, their expectations from their institutions and congregations, and the problems they highlighted while practicing their profession were discussed. Based on these findings, the study concludes with several recommendations for stakeholders.
