Bir Psikiyatri Hastanesinin Terapotik Ortamının Sağlık Çalışanları ve Hastalar Tarafından Değerlendirilmesi

This study was conducted in accordance with the cross-sectional descriptor research design in order to evaluate the therapeutic environment of a psychiatric hospital in Turkish Republic of North Cyprus by health care providers and patients. The sample of the study consisted of 83 people, 40 of them are working full-time in a psychiatric hospital as health care providers and 43 of them are non-agitated inpatient patients who are able to communicate. The data was collected between May and October 2018 by having information form from health care providers and by using Service Environment Scale. During the evaluation of the data, descriptive statistics of patients’ and health care provider’s points which were obtained from Service Environment Scale were evaluated by using Mann-Whitney U test while Kruskal Wallis H test was used to evaluate to compare two groups. It would seem that 46.5% of the patients were at the age of 51 years and over, 62.79% of the patients were male and 46.5% were hospitalized in the acute-clinical service. 52.5% of health care providers are in the 36-45 age group, 70% are women and 50% work in the clinical service. In this study ıt was conluded that when comparing the points which were obtained from the service environment scale sub-dimensions of the patients’ and health care providers’ the autonomy, organization and the clearness of the program, the control of the employees and the points were high, and the points of the health care providers from the sub-dimensions of order and organization, anger and aggression were high. Due to high points of health care providers and patients on order and organization sub-dimension suggest that the both groups are willing to create a therapeutic environment. As a result of the study, it was seen that the average points of the service environment scale of the psychiatric hospital were low and therapeutic environment interventions needed to be improved. It is suggested that supporting the sub-dimensions of the three main dimensions with trainings in both groups will affect positively the therapeutic environment for patients and health care prodivers.
