As a historian, Cemal Kutay his life and works

ABSTRACT Cemal KUTAY was bom in Konya in 1910. His father was Tahir Bey, the seventeenth son of Bedirhan Bey, Pasha of Cizre. His father worked in Konya as a judge. Since Cemal Kutay had to look after his family due to the death of his father in 1924, he left Konya High School in 1924 while he was in the last class of the school. Then he went to Ankara and began to work in Hakimiyet-i Milliye newspaper as a proofreader. Returning back to Konya in 1932, he founded the "Yeni Anadolu Matbaası" (New Anatolia Printing Press). Besides, while publishing "Yeni Anadolu" (New Anatolia) newspaper and "Terbiye Postası" (Education Post) journal, he had found an opportunity to demonstrate his experiences gained in Ankara. He again had to return to Ankara in 1934. Till 1940 he worked in "Hakimiyet-i Milliye" (Soveignty of the Nation) - its name was changed in 1935 as "Ulus" ( Nation)- and he was even promoted to Editor-in-chief of this newspaper. He had to settle down in Istanbul due to the opposition between the government and him during this time. He firstly published "Halk Gazatesi" (People Newspaper) with Turgut Bayar in Istanbul in 1941. Then he published "Millet" ( Nation ) and "Hakka Doğru" (Towards God and the right) journals. After having given active struggle until 1950, the journal Millet's publishing life was ended in 1950. On the other had the journal Hakka Doğru, it has religious implicit, continued to be published until 1952. While he was trying to write books he also published "Çağımız" (Our Century), "Tarih Konuşuyor" (History is speaking) and "Sohbetler" (Conversations) journals. Cemal KUTAY, who wrote hundreds of books and thousands of articles in the field of history, lives in Istanbul with the efforts of writing new works of ait.
