The profi̇les and the applicati̇on reason of patients admitted to clinics of family medicine department of a uni̇versity

İntroduction and aim: Primary health care is among the nearest and easily accesible health service. In our study, we aim to reveal patients profile applying to primary care clinics of Family Medicine Department at Adnan Menderes University by evaluating the demographic data on gender and age, common cause of applying, diagnosis, consulting services provided, implementing methodological plans and referral and consultation process. Material and Method: In our study designed as cross sectional and descriptive; data on demography, application reason, frequency of admission, diagnosis, consultancy issues, management plan, examination and treatment, monitoring, referral and consultation process of 1420 patients applied to ADU primary care clinics between 07.05.2010 - 21.03.2013 were being evaluated by patient record system. Results: While the number of patients applied to clinics of Family Medicine Department at Adnan Menderes University was 1420, the number of application to clinics was 2472 in total. The avarage number of application was determined as 1,7. The majority were females 1636 patients and 836 patients were male. The mean age of patients was 47 and age range of patients was 47 and the age range of patients applied to hospital most frequently was between the age of 25-64. The range of patients with the least application was between the age of 0-6. The most frequent application cause mentioned by patients were general control, prescription, cough, sore throat, fatigue and back pain. The most freuent principal diagnosis were iron deficiency anemia, hypertension, dyslipidemia, diabetes mellitus and osteoporosis. 1084 of patients (%43,9) were asked to blood test, 469 patients (% 19) were prescribed, 187 patients (%7,6) were provided consultancy. Five patients (%0,02) were transfered and 16 patients (% 0,06) were consulted Conclusıon: Family medicine training and practice should include more periodic examination, carecontinuity, management and counsultancy of chronic illness.
