PLANNING A UNDERGROUND COAL MINE AND BUYUKDUZ APPLICATIONMüge ŞAH NMining Engineering, M.S. Thesis, 2007Thesis Supervisor: Doç.Dr Kaan ERARSLANThesis Vice-Supervisor: Prof.Dr. .Göktay ED ZSUMMARYIn this study, planning of Büyükdüz Underground Mine located in TunçbilekRegion, which has one of the most important lignite reserves, was carried out. Thepurposes of the planning of the mine, having characteristical geological structure, arelarge quantity, safer and rapid coal production. First of all, a tectonic and a geologicalstructure of the mine were determined and lignite reserve of it was calculated by thetaking account of the drill holes in the mine area. Various underground productionmethods, which are suitable for the physical conditions of the mine, were investigatedand the most suitable method was selected especially by considering the thickness of thevein. The most appropriate location and number of the mine panels was determined bytaking account of geological, tectonic structure and production method. In panelplanning not only production of the lignite and safety are considered, but alsoventilation and transportation are considered as suitable as possible for presentconditions. Sub-systems of development and production stages and their planning arefully performed. Support and transportation systems selection, excavation equipmentselection, water drainage and ventilation methods selection are carried out for bothstages. The water drainage, transportation and ventilation projects were also carried out.Water drainage system, which is necessary for draining the water in the mine by the useof pump, was planned. While chain conveyor and belt conveyor engine power werecalculated in the transportation planning, the fan tube selection was also performedaccording to required air amount in the ventilation project. As a result, the planning ofthe Büyükdüz Underground Mine, which can supply minimum production loss, saferand rapid production, was carried out and explained in a details.Key words: Lignite, planning, underground mining.
