Abstract (EN)

Firstly passed in 1926, the Child adoption law was later reconstituted in accordance with the New Turkish Civil Code in 01.01.2002 which is currently in effect. Child adoption in our country is carried out in two ways. The first is by way of Child Service Directorate General connected to the Ministry of Family and Social Policies; while the second is via family courts. The purpose in child adoption is to provide unprivileged (orphaned) and careseeking children family affection, and at the same time, to let families without children experience the love of offspring. The functioning of such a significant institution which serves a lofty purpose is crucial. The service of child adoption in our country is insufficient. The aim of our thesis is to specify the factors affecting the success of the child adoption service and to measure the knowledge and attitude of individuals towards this service. The case problem of the thesis is that even if the child adoption is a useful service in practice, people do not have a positive look on the service practically, because of the dangers. In the literature review, it is shown that there are hardly any studies on this issue and this sets forth the importance of our study. Our thesis consists of theoretical and practical parts. In the theoretical part, the service of child adoption and Turkish family structure are appraised. The practical part is the research itself. For research scope, we interviewed 500 participants who are in treatment in Haseki Education and Research Hospital and Prof. Reşat Belger Beyoğlu at the Eye Education and Research Hospital, using a questionnaire as our data collection technic. In the research, the participants were asked to evaluate the conditions of the child adoption implementation instructions, to specify their view on child adoption service, and to put forward their reservations on the child adoption service. It is understood that the participants agree on the conditions of child adoption instruction. It is concluded that since the participants do not have specific information on child adoption service, they are uncommitted and have mostly economical reasons for using the child adoption service.
