Abstract (EN)

Subjective well-being, that is happiness is the secret life purpose of people. Tourism activities are essentially based on achieving happiness. In this study, it is aimed to analyse the effects of the individual's personal traits, basic values, and communication skills upon subjective well-being levels. The research was conducted on the individuals including both the students educated in tourism and academicians educating and also educated tourism at the state and foundation universities in Istanbul and at the state universities other than Istanbul. A questionnaire including demographic questions with the scales of four variables was applied and 406 valid data were obtained. Explanatory and confirmatory factor analyses were made to the applied scales. SPSS 22 was used in the analysis of the obtained data. In the research, in order to analyse the projected model, AMOS was used and structural equation model was applied. In the results of the analysis, it was determined that there was a partial meaningful relation between the variables and demographic data, and the variables had meaningful relations one another. In the analyses, it was observed that personality traits affect the basic values, the communication skills and the subjective well-being; and the basic values affect the communication skills and the subjective well-being; the communication skills affect the subjective well-being of communication skills. It was achieved that the mediating effect of communication skills between the basic values and the subjective well-being is significant. However, it was perceived that the communication skills between personality traits and subjective well-being, and the basic values between the personality traits and subjective well-being do not have significant effects as being the mediator. In conclusion, the effect of personality traits, basic values, and communication skills variables as the mediator on subjective well-being variable was investigated and no significant effect was obtained.
