Sinop in World War-I

The hysterical situation that started in Europe in the first quarter of the 20th century and then spread on a global scale dragged humanity into a great world war. One of the countries that joined the war was the Ottoman Empire. The story of the Ottoman Empire entering this war began in 1914 in the Black Sea and this difficult period would continue until 1918. In this context, Sinop, one of the important port cities of the Southern Black Sea, is one of the cities that deeply felt the conditions of the war, although it was not on a front where hot conflicts took place. Within the scope of this study, the administrative, economic, demographic, social, cultural and military structure of Sinop during the First World War and the reflections of the war in Sinop and its districts were examined. In this context, Ottoman archive documents, which constitute the main source of the research, were used, and copyrighted and research works, theses and periodicals were also used. In the light of the data obtained, it was aimed to provide researchers with a different perspective on the course of the First World War in the Black Sea and to contribute to the studies on the city history of Sinop.
