A study on the financial performance and investment feasibility of companies listed in the tourism index in İstanbul Stock Market

Tourism has become an important sector that has an impact on foreign trade deficit and development of country economy both in Turkey and the World. The purpose of study is evaluate to performance measures of tourism companies in tourism index and determine returns of the tourism sector in which comparing with BIST 100 index. This study differs from other studies because of using five-year-data, not only one and stock-performance ratios. In addition, this study uses both methods TOPSIS and regression and determines two-sided. In this study, return condition in comparison with market and the financial performance of six companies trading in BIST tourism index for five years between 2014-2018 is examined. The annual financial statements and stock returns of the companies are taken into consideration. Afterwards, decision matrices were formed by TOPSIS application and scores were found and rankings were made. In addition, the BIST 100 index returns, and the returns of the companies in the BIST Tourism Index are compared with the regression application and the return position in tourism companies has been tried to be measured. The study showed that tourism companies MAALT and AVTUR perform well according to TOPSIS. According to the regression analysis, AVTUR is more profitable than the market index, in other words, it is superior to the market. When viewed in the overall tablet, long-term performances of tourism companies in Turkey it is concluded that is insufficient.
