Determination of antimicrobial activities of some plant species obtained by plant tissue culture method

Abstract (EN)

Valeriana officinalis L, Prunella vulgaris L and Taraxacum officinale L have medical importances. In this study, the effects of plant growth regulators in different concentrations and combinations on callus and root formations applied to the leaf explants grown in vitro by plant tissue culture method were investigated. Then the antimicrobial activity of the regenerate tissues were investigated. The effects of extracts obtained from dried adventitious roots and calli belonging to plants on Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli bacteria and Candida kruseii fungi were investigated. According to the results of antimicrobial activity test, P. vulgaris adventif roots and calli have antimicrobial effect on P. aeruginosa and E. coli bacteria. V. officinalis adventive roots have antimicrobial effect on P. aeruginosa, E. coli bacteria and C. kruseii fungi. T. officinale callus was found to have antimicrobial effect on S. aureus bacterium and C. kruseii fungus. Plant growth regulators of different concentrations and combinations were observed to be effective on antimicrobial activity.
