The purpose of this study is to investigate relation of the youth receiving health education with smoking status and dependent personality feature. All of the students enrolled to and attending at Bitlis Eren University School of Health and Vocational School of Health Service in 2011-2012 academic year were chosen for sample group. Rate of smoking in the group was 29,8% and this rate was 45,6% for male, and 14% for female. When those who were smoking and had quitted smoking were accepted as a group and compared with those who never started smoking, students who were still smoking or quitted smoking had higher dependent personality scores than those who never smoked(p<0.05).Consequently, it was seen that smoking frequency of university students having health education was similar to general population and smoking status was associated with dependent personality feature.Key words: Bitlis Eren University, smoking, dependent personality, university students.
