Analysis of disaster preparation and preparation perception of nurses working in state hospitals in Bitlis province

This study was conducted to examine the preparedness and preparedness perceptions of nurses for disasters. The study was carried out fragmentarily in Bitlis State Hospital, Tatvan State Hospital, Ahlat State Hospital, Adilcevaz Oncology Hospital, Güroymak State Hospital, Hizan State Hospital and Mutki District Hospital. The population of the study consisted of 424 nurses working in state hospitals of Bitlis Provincial Health Directorate. The whole population was completely done without any sampling. However, it was completed with 330 nurses. "Perception of Disaster Preparedness Scale in Nurses" which developed by Özcan and "Individual Information Form" both were used to collect data by the researcher Data were collected by visiting the hospitals on weekdays between 09.07.2018-23.08.2018 by face to face interview technique. Arithmetic mean, number, percentage, Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests were used for data analysis. According to DPPSN (Disaster Preparedness Perception Scale in Nurses), all nurses working in hospitals had high perceptions of preparedness. While the nurses working at Mutki District Hospital had the highest perception of preparedness, the nurses working at Tatvan State Hospital had the lowest perception of preparedness. In the study, it was seen that the nurses receiving disaster training had higher perception of preparedness than the nurses without disaster training. And also it was seen that the nurses who experienced disasters had higher perception of preparedness than the others. As a result, nurses' perceptions of preparedness are high and their perceptions after response and disaster are moderate. However, it was observed that nurses were partially ready for disaster in their individual characteristics.
