Özet (EN)

People feel comfortable when atmospheric conditions are within a certain threshold. This threshold is called the comfort zone. Bioclimatic comfort, or biocomfort for short, can be defined as the state in which climatic-atmospheric conditions such as temperature, wind velocity, and humidity are within an appropriate threshold for human comfort. Throughout their lives, people strive to align the biocomfort values of their surroundings to their comfort zones using tools like clothing and heating or cooling systems. Therefore, keeping the climatic parameters of the region in which one lives within the comfort zone is essential for one's serenity, health, performance, happiness, and energy use. For this reason, the regional and temporal change of the suitable thresholds as far as biocomfort is concerned is significant from various points of view. Based on this, the present study aims to determine certain meteorological parameters for the province of Van, one of the important cities in Turkey, and, consequently, the seasonal change in the zones that are (not) in alignment with biocomfort values. At the end of the study, a biocomfort map created using the annual average meteorological data revealed whether the entirety of the province is compatible with biocomfort threshold values. Seasonal assessments show that the province is uncomfortable during spring, autumn, and winter while 99.18% of the zones are biocomfortable and 0.82% do not comply with biocomfort thresholds during summer. The study also includes evaluations based on summer index values. These evaluations manifest that in the province of Van, the majority of the residents feel substantially comfortable even during the warmest months of June, July, and August but certain individuals remain in cooler zones. This is an indicator of the fact that Van is within a relatively cool climate zone.
