Biomass-based energy production plant feasibility study : a case analysis

Abstract (EN)

Increasing global energy demand and the environmental impacts associated with CO₂ emissions have heightened interest in sustainable energy sources as alternatives to fossil fuels. Biomass energy, derived from agricultural, urban, forestry, and industrial waste, contributes to reducing the environmental damage caused by fossil fuel usage. This study examines the current state of biomass energy in Turkey, its contributions to sustainable development, and the diversity of its sources. In the Materials and Methods section, biomass power plants in Turkey were analyzed, and technical and economic feasibility assessments were conducted for different biomass resources. The study evaluates biomass combustion technologies, energy efficiency, environmental impact, and economic return periods. The Findings section presents the status of biomass power plants, their applicability in Turkey, economic analysis results, and payback periods. In the Discussion, the integration of biomass energy into renewable energy systems and its potential impact on carbon reduction were analyzed. Based on a case study in Yalova, the results highlight the positive environmental impacts of biomass energy and its contributions to Turkey's energy security. The feasibility analysis suggests that the economic sustainability of biomass power plants varies depending on the fuel source and available incentives. Overall, the study emphasizes the strategic role of biomass energy as a key renewable energy source.
