Investigation of the changes in some biochemical and physiological parameters with relation to vitamin D level in renal failure

Abstract (EN)

Chronic kidney disease is a progressive loss in renal function over a period of months or years, and it may lead to one of its recognized complications such as cardiovascular disease, anemia or pericarditis. Chronic kidney disease is a well-known risk factor for the end stage of renal disease. Vitamin D deficiency is common in the chronic kidney disease (CKD) population. CKD has been recognized as a significant public health problem and CKD patients are at increased risk of total and cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. There is increasing epidemiological data suggesting that vitamin D deficiency may play a role in overall morbidity and mortality associated with CKD. This study was conducted to investigate the relationship between vitamin D level and some biochemical markers including, Serum level of 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25-OH-D), urea, creatinine, calcium, potassium, glucose, phosphate, total protein, albumin HGB in samples of Iraqi patients with chronic renal failure. 100 patients suffering from chronic kidney disease who were obtained from Al-Kindy hospital in Baghdad- Iraq, it was conducted between August, 2019 up until November, 2019; and compared with 25 healthy individuals as control group. The sera were separated from the patient's blood samples and subjected to biochemical studies. In this study, we found out that the mean values of some biochemical parameters important for the detection of chronic renal failure. The results showed that there was a statistically significant difference between patients and healthy controls in blood urea, creatinine, glucose, CA, P, K, HGB, (P< 0.005). Whereas our results recorded the distribution of vitamin D 25-OH-D levels categories is significant which found that 33 % of case deficient, 50 % insufficient, and only 17 sufficient while in control 4 %, 64 %, and 32 %, respectively. It was noticed that all parameters not correlated significantly with vitamin D except the urea level. KEYWORDS:Vitamin D, blood, LDL, HDL, cholesterol, diabetic, serum
