Abstract (EN)

In recent years, social media data has begun to be considered a readily accessible and cost-effective large data source for researchers aiming to conduct various analyses, whether location-based or not. These data are particularly used by researchers to analyze the movements of people searching for safe places due to political, social, and economic issues. Geotagged social media data can provide significant insights into human mobility patterns. Twitter (X), as a platform used daily by approximately 238 million people, serves as a rich data source for such analyses. This study aims to determine the advantages and limitations of using spatial data related to migration movements caused by regional conflicts with geotagged Twitter (X) social media data, utilizing the Twitter (X) Application Programming Interface (API). Geotagged tweets obtained through the Twitter (X) API have been used to determine migration tendencies and the countries to which individuals have migrated from their homelands. The results of the analysis reveal the geographical distribution of migration movements and their changes over time. The findings offer valuable insights into migrants' social media usage habits and how migration movements can be tracked with geotagged data.
