Investigation of the Bolvadin province historical structures in terms of the architecture and material use

Historical houses are civil architechture works that show the past socio-economic and cultural structure of a society and witness the history. The physical structure of the historical houses is integrated with the social fabric of their historic period. The architecture, engineering applications and materials used in theese houses formed according to the characteristics of the traditional social life. The preservation of the cultural heritage and the recording of the physical characteristics of historical houses that bridge the past and present are primary duties of all humanity. Historical Turkish houses reflect the texture of Turkish culture and are shaped by the combination of Anatolian and Central Asian culture and architecture. Bolvadin houses are typical of traditional Turkish houses. It reflects the traditional social life in Bolvadin with its unique style, rich building materials and architecture. Bolvadin houses, which are important examples of historical Turkish houses, have a high degree of touristic potential. There are a number of studies in the literature regarding the registration of historic Bolvadin houses in terms of building materials and architectural features. However, these studies contain only a part of the historical houses in Bolvadin and have been partly investigated. With this study, sixtyeight important historical civil architectural works in Bolvadin district has been determined extensively by Bolvadin Municipality archives, literature surveys and in-stu investigations. The building materials, construction and architectural features of the historical houses were determined in these houses. In addition, they were photographed and their building properties records were kept. Thus, histocal Bolvadin houses were archived with their building features. This study is expected to be a guide for the preservation and sustain of historical houses in Bolvadin, futher social and cultural studies and urban regeneration projects in Bolvadin.
