The socio-economical properties of divorce-seeking women, the identification of factors concerni̇ng social support and hopelessness levels

This study aims to determine the socio-economical properties of the women in the course of divorce and the relation between social support and hopelessness levels. The universe of this study includes 828 women during their divorce process on the Family Courts on Manisa Courthouse between the dates 01.09.2016-30.04.2017 and simple random sampling method has been used to choose 242 women from this universe to create the sample group of this study. In this regard, the dependent variable of the research is the hopelessness level of the divorce-seeking women, whereas the independent variable is the socio-economical common features of the women and their perceived social support amounts. In this study, the research data are gathered by socio-demographical survey form, Beck Hopelessness Scale and multidimensional social support scale under the quantitative research method. The One Way ANOVA and Independent Sample T tests are used in the analysis of data. The analysis of the relation between the social support perceived by the women and the level of hopelessness is made by Pearson Correlation Coefficient Formula, whereas further analysis is carried out by the help of the Enter Method and the regression analysis. The research findings point to a meaningful difference among the amount of incomes of divorce-seeking women (t(239)=3,882, p< .05), the place of residence until the age of 12 (t(197)= -2,897, p<.05) and the individuals they live together in the course of divorce (t(240)=2,107, p<.05) and the level of hopelessness. According to the research outcomes, it is determined that the level of hopelessness falls down with the rise of social support maintained by private persons to the divorce-seeking women (β=.15, t(241)=2.19,p<.05). The results also refer to the fact that professional support should be common and accessible in order to allay hopelessness among divorce-seeking women.
