Social support pravtices for divorce women: Siirt example

This study addresses the economic, social and psychological problems faced by women who continue their lives as single parents after divorce and examines the effectiveness of social support practices that will help them overcome these problems. In this context, in-depth interviews were conducted with 10 female participants whose divorce process had officially been completed. Phenomenology design, one of the qualitative research types, was used in the study. The interviews were conducted with a semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher. The data obtained within the scope of the study were evaluated and divided into codes and themes. As in Turkey, there is an increase in divorce cases in Siirt province. This study reveals how local socioeconomic and cultural factors shape the experiences of divorced women in Siirt province. The research findings show that divorced women experience serious economic difficulties, face the risk of social isolation due to social prejudices, need support in coping with psychological problems, have problems in legal matters and cannot spend enough time with their children, earn little income by working in heavy and long-term jobs, and generally work in daily jobs. It has been concluded that women who benefit from social support services such as family support, social environment support, socioeconomic support, and psychological support in the post-divorce process can adapt to this process more easily, but women who do not receive this support experience more difficulties. In this context, it is recommended that existing social support practices be expanded, socioeconomic and legal aid be increased, psychosocial support services be expanded, and counseling services be provided to family members affected by the divorce phenomenon. It is recommended that families be provided with training within the scope of the Family Education Program in order to increase family, social environment, economic and psychological support services in the post-divorce period.
