Investigation of the psychometric properties of the Turkish version of brighton musculoskeletal patient reported outcome measurements

This study aimed to translate the "The Brighton Musculoskeletal Patient-Reported Outcome Measure" (BmPROM) scale into Turkish (BmHBSÖ) and examine the psychometric properties. The study was conducted with 122 volunteer patients, ranging in age 18 to 74 who were followed up in the physiotherapy and rehabilitation clinic with the diagnosed musculoskeletal conditions were included in the study. The physical, sociodemographic, and medical information of the patients were recorded. The comprehensibility of the Turkish translation of the BmPROM which was applied to the standard translation procedure steps was tested with 25 patients and the content validity was verified by 20 physiotherapists. BmPROM, Short Form-36 Quality of Life Scale (SF-36), and The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire were applied to the subjects. BmPROM was re-applied 10 days later for test-retest reliability (n=67). To determine the validity and reliability of the scale, internal consistency, test-retest reliability, and construct validity were examined. The general internal consistency coefficient of the BmPROM was found to be α=0.739, the Cronbach α value of the functionality subscale 0.721, and the wellbeing subscale 0.766. Between the BmPROM 's functionality and wellbeing scores and the SF-36 Quality of Life Scale's sub-dimensions, there was a positive moderate and low levels correlation (p<0.001). BmPROM 's functionality and wellbeing scores and The Nordic Musculoskeletal Questionnaire showed a moderate to low negative correlation (p<0.05). It was concluded that the Turkish version of the BmPROM is a valid and reliable scale that can be used in the multidimensional evaluation of musculoskeletal problems in terms of pain, physical function, and psycho-social.
