Özet (EN)

The purpose of this study was to explore relationship between bureaucracy andorganizational health in elementary schools, according to opinions of elementary schoolteachers.The population of study was 1380 teachers in 71 elementary schools inAfyonkarahisar that employed 5 or more teachers in 2004-2005 school year. Privateschools were excluded from the analysis.The sample was composed of 400 teachers in 40 schools. The stratified samplinghas been used to determine the study?s sample. Determined number of teachers in allschools were randomly selected. In the study `bureaucratization questionnaire? whichdeveloped by Yücel (1999) and `Organizational Health in Elementary Schools (OHI-E)?which developed by Hoy, Tarter and Kottkamp (1991) have been used for measuringinstruments. The number of questionnaires which returns as usable were 340.Frequency, percentage, mean, standart deviation, corelation, t- test, regressionanalyses were used to analyze of data. It was found that bureaucracy influenced onorganizational health in the study. Furthermore, bureaucracy effects all organizationalhealth dimensions. According to opinions of teachers, bureaucratic schools are healthyschools. Following the rules is the most efficient dimension of bureaucracy onorganizational health.Key Words: Bureaucracy, Organizational Health, Elementary Schools
