Evaluation of motor imagery, cognitive function and reaction time in children with bronchiectasis

Abstract (EN)
The aim of our study was to investigate the effects of bronchiectasis on motor imagery ability, reaction time and cognitive functions in patients. 33 participants from Atlas University Faculty of Health Sciences were included in the study. 13 patients followed in the Department of Pediatric Chest Diseases, Department of Child Health and Diseases, Istinye University Faculty of Medicine Hospital, were divided into two groups: the Bronchiectasis group and 20 healthy children, the control group. Motor imagery ability with Movement Image Questionnaire-3, Vividness of Visual Imagery Questionnare, reaction time with Nelson Hand-Foot Reaction Test, Cognitive Functions with Trace Making Test and Stroop Test, Pulmonary functions with Pulmonary Function test, functional capacity was assessed with the 6 Minute Walk test, the level of dyspnea with the Dalhousie Dyspnea and Perceived Exertion Scale, the quality of life with the Children's Quality of Life Scale, and the fear of movement with the Tampa kinesiophobia scale. As a result of all evaluations, the demographic characteristics of the groups were similar (p>0.05). In spirometric measurement, respiratory function in the control group was measured in FEV1/FVC (%), PEF (lt/sec), PEF (Pred %), FEF25-75 (lt/sec), FEF25-75 (Pred %) parameters, 6MWT's ΔHeart rate (beats/min), ΔDyspnea (Borg) parameters, Movement Imagination Questionnaire-3 (Internal), Movement Imagination Questionnaire-3 (External), Movement Imagination Questionnaire-3 (Kinesthetic), Vividness of Movement Imagination Questionnaire (Eyes Closed), , Vividness of Movement Imagination Questionnaire (Total Score) parameters where motor imagery ability is evaluated, reaction time evaluation in Nelson Foot Reaction Test, cognitive function evaluation in Trail Making Test-A (Short Form), The results obtained the errors and corrections in subparameters Stroop Test in "Saying the color of the rectangle" and "Reading colored words" and the results obtained in the error values in the "Saying the color of the colored words" section were found to be statistically significantly different between the groups (p<0.05). Evaluation of motor imagery ability, cognitive functions and reaction time may provide input for treatment programs aimed at improving the performance of patients with bronchiectasis.
