The importance and awareness level of ergonomics in terms of office workers

With the Occupational Health and Safety Law No. 6331, which came into force on 30.06.2012 in our country, rules and sanctions covering all private and public emplo-yees were introduced. However, when the law in question was examined, it was ob-served that more dangerous workplaces were mentioned more in many of the regula-tions and sanctions, and it was observed that the working environments in the less dangerous class were not adequately addressed. It should not be forgotten that there are explicit or hidden hazardous situations and risk factors that profoundly affect office workers. Today, the vast majority of employees spend their time in office set-tings. For this reason, occupational diseases and work accidents that employees may encounter have a powerful connection with the science of ergonomics. The main goal of ergonomics; is to improve the quality of work-life and work environments. When evaluated from this point of view, the importance of the science of ergonomics emer-ges in different health problems from muscle and skeletal system problems to psyc-hological disorders. As a reflection of these reasons, within the scope of this work, a survey study was conducted on the office staff working at Institution ''A''. While the first part of the survey is asking questions about personal information, the second part includes detai-led questions about ergonomics. The results obtained were found to be very interes-ting and were supported by an additional survey study conducted with the office staff of Institution ''B''. As a result of the evaluation, it was seen that the knowledge and awareness levels of office workers about ergonomics were not at the desired level. Besides, it has been determined that appropriate training can increase awareness of ergonomics science and therefore, health problems caused by ergonomics can be minimized.
