Improvement of burundi soils by using lime and wood shavings

Due to population growth and rapid industrialization, the presence of construction sites is decreasing day by day. In the past, land that is not considered suitable for transportation or construction projects opens up to the use of new investments. Frequent problems in this case are low transport capacity, low shear strength and consolidation seats. In such cases, it is aimed to improve the problematic soils by adding different waste materials. Besides, it is aimed to evaluate the waste material and contribute to the economy by making scientific studies with waste materials. In addition, proper waste disposal is of great importance both in rural and urban areas. In this study, the appropriateness of the use of easily obtainable lime and wood shavings to treat Burundi's soils, one of the newly developing countries of Central-Africa, has been discussed. The effects of wood shavings and lime on the soil properties were investigated in laboratory studies. Especially, proposed solutions are presented for the soil bearing capacity and consolidation problems.
