Abstract (EN)
Ceramics, beyond being merely a material, is a field of art and science that accompanies us both with functional objects that facilitate our daily lives and with works that serve our aesthetic perception as a branch of the plastic arts, rooted in a deep historical tradition. Like other art forms, ceramic art has enriched its expressive power through interdisciplinary interactions during the postmodern period. Its traditionally defined structure, which began to transform in the modern era, has evolved into contemporary examples through the influence of postmodernism. On the other hand, the concept of deconstruction—originally a philosophy and language-based literary criticism introduced by Jacques Derrida in the late 1960s during the rise of postmodernist thought—has also interacted with ceramic art, as it has with all art forms. At its core, deconstruction, which entails breaking down and reconstructing, has enabled the emergence of ceramic works that not only expand expressive capacity but also multiply layers of meaning. Consequently, deconstruction has become a frequently employed method by artists as an alternative mode of expression. Whether on a conceptual level or through formal interventions, the application of deconstruction to ceramic forms has allowed a non-functional ceramic object to transform into an artistic form imbued with new meaning. Additionally, it has paved the way for discarded ceramic fragments to be composed into artworks within a conceptual framework. Moreover, by physically altering ceramic forms with cultural significance, artists have turned them into objects of popular culture. The deconstruction of decorative elements on ceramic surfaces has also provided opportunities for shifts in meaning, thereby diversifying modes of expression in ceramic art. In this respect, the research subject focuses on exploring new forms of expression in ceramic art through the lens of deconstruction, while also aiming to foster new perspectives for ceramic artists and those undergoing education in this field.
