Performance art in contemporary ceramic art

In this study on the intersection of contemporary ceramic art and performance art, the origins, fundamental characteristics, historical development, materials, techniques, and applications of performance art are examined to understand the relationship between ceramics and clay. The scope of the study is to observe and exemplify the alternative uses of ceramic materials as a form of expression and their place in contemporary performance art. The research investigates how performance art has transformed ceramic art and aims to popularize the diverse ways in which ceramic materials are used in contemporary ceramic art. Performance art, emerging in the 1920s, is an art form performed live by the artist. Utilizing alternative and ready-made materials without constraints of place and time, this form of art has disrupted classical art conventions, paving the way for contemporary art. The origins and development of performance art are examined in the contexts of Futurism, Dadaism, Pop Art, Fluxus, Happening, Avant-garde, Conceptual Art, Video Art, Land Art, Body Art, and Feminist Art movements. The influences of this art form have significantly impacted the ancient art of ceramics. Performance artists have chosen clay as a medium of expression, while ceramic artists have incorporated performance into their work using clay. This integration has allowed traditional ceramic art to move beyond fundamental processes like firing and glazing. Unfired, raw clay creates an unconventional medium in the visual arts, adding a new dimension to contemporary ceramic art.
