Contemporary social processes and life choices of generations in the public sphere

Various researches continue on how to deal with the interaction of generations, their preferences and adaptation to change processes in social activity areas where thoughts, discourses and actions are produced to determine and realize the common good of the society. It is possible to make a smooth transition between the problems that the x, y and z generations, which constitute contemporary social processes and also take part in these processes, have to deal with in their search for the future. In recent times, where change has become inevitable, the purpose and frequency of use of the elements of common life in the public sphere and the way these tools are used should be adapted to people living in the same time period but born in different times and conditions. While the world view of generations changes more rapidly, intensively and widely with digitalization, the most important situation becomes the regulation of their relations among themselves. The aim of this study is to try to understand the life practices of the members of the X, Y and Z generations in the public space. For this purpose, first of all, a literature review was performed in the study. Then, a survey was conducted to a total of 822 people living in the city centers of Turkey's top three cities with the highest population (Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir). The collected data were analyzed comparatively using the SPSS programme. The interpretation of these analyzes showed that the use of social media by the Z generation was observed to be focus on applications that contain visual dynamics, while the use of international online dating applications was seen at a very low rate. Y generation was observed to attach great importance to written communication as well as using almost all communication tools actively. Even if it was considered that the X generation has difficulties in transitioning to the last period digital platforms, they appeared to show similarities with other generations in terms of communication preferences and engage in social adaptation efforts through these platforms.
